News from Gavin Bickerton-Jones Photography

Weather report said that we would get a couple of hours of sun this morning before the rain/snow came, so I was out early as I was trying a remote set-up with my other camera and a wide angle lens to get a 'vole eyed view' of an Owl. All was good when I got there, but after setting everything up I looked across the marsh to see this rainbow and leaden sky and feared the worst. Sure enough, the wind picked up and sleet crashed down as I hurriedly covered up the cameras and shelter them with my body for 10 minutes until it stopped. I set up again as the sun peeped out from behind the clouds and the Owl appeared hunting straight away, then it came down again! The Owl took refuge on a post for a while as they can't hunt in the rain, then flew off back to the farmyard quickly. I gathered everything up again and decided to give it up as a bad job before I got another wet camera, but the potential is there from the test shots I took, hopefully Ill get an Owl filling the frame soon!

RPS Recognition!

I entered this picture of a Barn Owl into a Royal Photographic Society competition not really expecting much, but was surprised to be informed that it was one of the winners and would be the RPS website header for the day! So all day today my photo has been the front page on their website, still cant quite believe it!...

LRPS Award

Pleased to be awarded a Licentiate distinction from the Royal Photographic Society today. To get an LRPS you have to have a panel of 10 images assessed for technical ability and quality at the RPS in Bristol. My panel is above. They go into a lot of detail, and my first application in October was turned down as 2 images had distracting backgrounds and 2 others needed small adjustments, so i re-applied with 2 new images and changes to the other 2 and was succesfull ! ...
