RPS Recognition!

I entered this picture of a barn owl into a Royal Photographic Society competition not really expecting much, but was surprised to be informed that it was one of the winners and would be the RPS website header for the day! So all day today my photo has been the front page on their website, still cant quite believe it!...

Precious moments with a Vixen.

Precious time spent with a local Vixen.   There is a bit of woodland near where I live, and over the years i have paid it visits, after i spotted some fox cubs there around 10 years ago. It is a small wood, with a bank in it that over the years Badgers and Foxes have sporadically made their home for a while.       Den on far left middle. Last year i spotted evidence of Badgers about, bedding material and fur on barbed wire, and sure enough I caught a bit of footage on my trail camera of a lone Badger coming out around 10 PM. This was in April, and over the next couple of months i went down there a lot with a flash set-up etc, sitting in the dark tryi...

A few days spent at Old Buckenham Park.

Spent a few early mornings and evenings over at the Old Buckenham Country Park site to check out how the wildlife is progressing. Great to see the male kingfisher using the perch we put out, he visited between 6 and 7AM, first catching and eating a fish himself, then catching 4 more fish which he turned around so it was head facing out (if they eat one they take it head first so the spines and scales go down easier) and flew to the nest each time to give to his young, hopefully see some young soon! The pond is in a lovely spot which catches the sun nicely. While waiting for the Kingfisher, the barn owl was hunting successfully, taking plenty of short tailed...

  Happy New Year everyone! Here are some of my favourite shots from last year. Quite a varied subject range, a bit top heavy on barn owl pics  but I did spend a lot of time with them  seeing them go from the nest box to the wild. Looking forward to 2019 and what it might bring.  ...
