Nice to see that a family of water Voles have taken residence in a small pond at Strumpshaw Fen. They are a bit timid, but if you sit quietly enough they are happy to gradually come out more and munch away on the reeds in the pond. They are bigger than I expected, a bit bigger than a hamster, with webbed front paws and big rear feet to propel them through the water....

Just back from another 3 day trip at Rothiemurchus fisheries near Aviemore on a tour run by excellent wildlife photographer and guide ‘Osprey Whisperer’ Jo Mcintyre, to witness and capture Ospreys fishing in a trout lake. Great to see the male kingfisher using the perch we put out, he visited between 6 and 7AM, first catching and eating a fish himself, then catching 4 more fish which he turned around so it was head facing out (if they eat one they take it head first so the spines and scales go down easier) and flew to the nest each time to give to his young, hopefully see some young so...
